# Background presets

> Create atmospheric, recognizable settings that remain flexible across characters, outfits, and poses.

A background preset defines the environment behind a character: location, lighting, and atmosphere. It should make the scene recognizable without dictating who the character is or what they are doing.

## Requirements

A public background preset:

* Defines the environment only.
* Works with different characters and poses.
* Has a recognizable general look.
* Matches its cover image.
* Remains broad enough for many users.

Example:

```text theme={null}
cozy coffee shop interior, warm pendant lighting, wooden tables,
soft street light through large windows
```

## The specificity rule

More detail is useful until it locks the preset to one story.

| Flexible               | Too specific                                         |
| ---------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------- |
| A temple courtyard | An Aphrodite temple in mid-June at night |
| A coffee shop interior | A dim Brooklyn cafe at 7 a.m. in winter              |
| A beach at sunset | Malibu on the Fourth of July at golden hour |
| A forest path | An enchanted medieval forest with glowing mushrooms |
| A rooftop cityscape    | A Tokyo rooftop during cherry-blossom season at dusk |

Use enough detail to establish composition, lighting, and atmosphere. Remove names, dates, micro-locations, and story events that most users do not need.

## Avoid

* Forcing the character to sit, stand, lean, swim, or face a direction.
* Outfit-specific elements that clash with other clothing presets.
* Niche time, date, location, or cultural references.
* Fantasy, supernatural, or science-fiction environments with limited broad appeal.
* A prominent second character or model in the background.
* An empty gradient or other backdrop with no meaningful visual context.

Subtle background figures can be acceptable when they establish a public place and do not distract from the main character.

## Test checklist

Test the background with:

* Standing, seated, and movement poses.
* Casual and formal outfits.
* Different character styles and proportions.
* A batch large enough to reveal whether the model keeps forcing a particular position.

If the background only works when the character performs one action, remove the action cue or move the idea into a private combined prompt.
